Housing | Saturday 28 May 2005 11:30 pm

I disassembled my bed today. That was fun. Also went through a few minutes of near panic when I called to confirm the uhaul and they said we couldn’t pick it up till noon on Wednesday. That wouldn’t have worked so well, since we have to be out of the house by noon (though for what exact reason I can’t really guess. as far as we know, no one else has rented this place yet.). Anyway, so, we dumped uhaul (it’s now in therapy because of its loss) for the Budget place in Mpls that lets us have a truck for 24 hours. Uhaul should really learn from its failure to commit. Maybe then all of its relationships wouldn’t end this way.

Mike and I just went and played with (and fed) Genencor who, besides having a really great name, was very social and tried to eat some of our ice cream.

Yesterday the house went from having 8 people living in it to having 3. I think it’s feeling a little lonely, which is sad because on Wednesday at noon there will be 0 people here.

I hope you realize that I’m aware of the fact that I have nothing to say, and I’m only posting to satisfy my four readers (well, mainly Laurel).

So I went to see Episode III the other night, and if I didn’t know better, I’d say this movie looked suspiciously like it was set up for a sequel.

The Padme/babies part was my favorite. And also maybe the assassination(s) of the Jedi. Hayden Christianson (sp?) was as always less than stellar (You’re pregnant? “That’s … wonderful.”) but not bad to look at and sorta evil-looking. I did like the image of him burning on the hillside. My mom doesn’t think I will like this movie a month from now, but I think I will, mostly because the plot was already written from the last (first?) three movies, and babies are just sooo cool.

According to Mike, because of global warming, Tuvalu might soon be leaving us (the meaning of “soon” being imprecise). Sad. Speaking of getting rid of things, today fellow intern Sarah and I discussed the uselessness of the letter C and my worry about the penny. Apparently she also is of the fear-of-strange-patterns-and-spots people. I think we should form a support group. Or maybe at least just come up with a name for our difficult-to-describe phobia. Sarah and I are also going to work on a phonetic alphabet (like C=Charlie, F=Foxtrot) using names of philosophers (K=Kant, F=Foucault). I don’t really remember why.

In a move that might seem inconsistent with my last paragraph, I’m going to make an effort to use fewer hyphens.

Spending Money | Thursday 19 May 2005 1:54 pm

I have tickets for Aimee Mann! Now I have to buy her new album.

In fifteen minutes I’m leaving for a job interview. I hope to have some kind of job by the end of the day, to justify the money I spent/am about to spend on the above.

Last night I downloaded the entire Grey’s Anatomy soundtrack while eating brie and drinking wine with Emily and Orlando.

Summer is really weird. And there are about 8 people living in my house right now.

Basak left today, probably about ten minutes ago, actually. Sad. This afternoon she gave me all sorts of food, including bulgar wheat, and “very small early young peas,” or something with an equally extraordinary amount of adjectives, especially for such (as the label insists) small peas. I’m wondering what size peas I usually eat. If I normally eat “large” peas, then these must be pretty darn tiny. I have to admit I am unreasonably fascinated by this can of peas.

Today I was intern-y. I had to come up with 5 odd things about myself to e-mail the rest of the staff. And as much as I know I’m a crackpot, it was kinda hard. I kept thinking of things like, I bred hamsters when I was little, or, schizophrenia runs in my family. But then I felt like I didn’t want to share those things. (Cute as the tiny things were. Did you know hamsters’ tales don’t grow in proportion to their bodies? So hamsterlings have adult-sized tails.)

Muku UTuulu (9:08:36 PM): i feel that i may need to reformat my ipod
cest si belle (9:09:09 PM): how do you reformat?
Muku UTuulu (9:09:50 PM): i presss the button that says “Reformat” under the message that says “You need to reformat your ipod”
cest si belle (9:10:37 PM): haahaha
cest si belle (9:10:50 PM): So this isn’t just a random feeling you have about your ipod
Muku UTuulu (9:10:56 PM): but currently im to distracted by the live final epsiode of the bachelor
cest si belle (9:10:57 PM): it’s actually telling you to reformat
cest si belle (9:11:19 PM): oooo hot
Muku UTuulu (9:11:27 PM): i would say its not really giving me many options on the issue

Is it just me or am I finding really weird things amusing tonight?

Look, it’s a new blog. Eventually this blog will have a partner blog, a blog friend, if you will, with which it can connive when I’m not paying attention to it. Someday, also, I will learn how to add files to my own subdomain. Till each of those days arrives, we’ll just have to wait in antipication of nursery-rhyme-themed buddies and operational links.

The first post is always awkward, even if you’ve put a non sequitur test post below it (thanks to Mike for the inspiration of the topic there). So, in avoidance of further awkwardness, I will leave whatever readers there might be (the one or two) an important question:

Papers are written with two spaces after the period. After years of hesitance and stubbornness, I’ve just gotten around to doing that. In the process, I’ve noticed that no one does this in e-mails. (Or blog posts.) Wtf, mate? How can one structure one’s life around such inconsistent rules? Did I change my ways for nothing?

PS Much appreciation for the expertise and aid of one M. O’Toole for the set-up of this as-yet-unread blog.
