Vehicles, Love Stories

Miscellaneous | Tuesday 31 January 2006 11:03 pm

Big news — my parents might get me a car for graduation. The awesomeness of this should not be underestimated. Although, I will probably have to leave it with them for seven months next year. They seem okay with that.

The Oscar nominations came out (I know, if I hadn’t told you, you’d never have found out). Turns out I’m really attached to Brokeback Mountain.

Munchies

Miscellaneous | Sunday 29 January 2006 10:33 pm

I went into the new CVS on Grand that opened today. It was very nice. It had carpeting. But no Munchies.

Pictures

Miscellaneous | Sunday 29 January 2006 1:02 am

Hello folks. Last Friday Grace and I took a lot of pictures. Here they are. I haven’t really double checked that it all works right, so if doesn’t, let me know. For how elaborate a work of art it is, it took me a longer time than I intended. WordPress has spoiled me, I guess.

I might have found a place to live for the summer.

I’ve been told I should post more.

Classes (that I take),Miscellaneous | Wednesday 25 January 2006 11:22 pm

I like posting, but I don’t have much to say right now. I dropped econ, and am probably switching to a psych class that looks pretty interesting. I’m going to have a bizarre asymmetrical schedule this semester that involves being busy till 8 on Fridays and 6 on Thursdays (wait I always do that). Also, I am going to miss the Oprah with the Brokeback Mountain stars this Friday. Don’t laugh. Her celebrity shows are the only ones really worth watching. Although I do admit I watched her favorite things show last fall, which is arguably the most inane, but it was a rerun, and really, what else is on at 4 pm?

I have to be at work at 8 tomorrow so I’m going to bed.

(Sometimes I can hear my computer, like when the text bar flashes it makes little noises.)

Classes (that I take) | Tuesday 24 January 2006 8:17 pm

I’m reading Dangerous Liaisons in two of my classes. But I have to actually read it both times, since one class is in English and the other is in French.

Not much going on here. I’ve been working during the day and going out at night. It’s almost like a normal lifestyle. Yesterday Cassie’s sister and her friend came to Saint Paul so we went to the Turf Club where I decided that strange men are predators and in general to be avoided. From now on am interacting only with men whom I already know.

We took a lot of pictures last night, but I left my camera-computer cord in TX so it will be a few days before I can post them. I also left some cute shoes and my iPod headphones there.

For Xmas I got Ryan Adams & the Cardinals/Cold Roses and Tegan and Sara/So Jealous and they have been my bus-ride to and from work songs recently. Except tonight I walked home just to see if it would take less time. It did.

I finally finished Nick Laird’s Utterly Monkey and I liked it, but not as much as The Family Tree, another book I recently risked some money on (by Carole Cadwalladr). The bet there turned out to be very worth it. It’s the book I think I wanted to write, except with different characters, and a different plot.

Sorry have been so boring. Went to the Muddy Pig last night and had a positive serving experience — whoa. Am going in to work again today, and tomorrow, and Saturday, and Sunday. But it’s good, because really I have nothing else to do. I already alphabetized my bookcase. Maybe I should try to make it over to the music dept and practice so I can have a lesson next week and whine to my teacher about Other Things.

Cacti Are So Phallic

Bonaire,Traveling | Saturday 14 January 2006 11:11 pm

Hello. Am back from the island. It was fun, and warm, and other stuff, but I’m sure you don’t want to hear about that, so I’ll just share these pictures from Washington Slagbaai National Park with you. I’ll also mention that we were afraid we would never find the exit.

So here are the bathrooms:

Women’s room (I guess they aren’t necessarily phallic)

Men’s room

The park also had an exhibit showing the evolution of species over time. Here’s the last 100,000 years:

And a close-up of the last few millennia:

Going Places

Bonaire,Miscellaneous,Traveling | Thursday 5 January 2006 11:50 pm

Tomorrow night we are off to Bonaire. I just asked my mom what language they speak there and what currency they use, and she knew neither. So, we’re all set. I believe I will be incommunicado since there might not be internet, so, if you just absolutely have to reach me, well, you’re out of luck. Sorry. Am back here the 14th, and will be in MN the 16th.

Oo la la (the slinky is Brandon)

Classes (that I take) | Thursday 5 January 2006 12:02 am

I’m thinking of dropping ECON 119 for this semester, since it’s going to be a lot of work, and as much as I’d like to have a clue about economics, I don’t really think I’m up for it at this point in senioritis. So I might just take three classes again, but at least one will be an English class.
