In Which I Fail at Several Things

I got to the place I volunteer at today and then found out that I’m not needed this week. Poo. So, I trekked home since the #70 bus wasn’t going to come back for another hour. I stopped at Victoria Crossing and caught a different bus. Good thing it was warm and sunny. I thought about going to buy that necklace but I didn’t really have time. I did check in at J Crew though, in the hopes of finding some gloves, but they have already moved into spring in their little pretend world where it’s warm enough for tank tops in February.

I haven’t practiced at all this week. Sad. Somehow all of my normal practicing times were taken up by other things.

If I forgot to RSVP to the Founders Ball can I still go?

I slept through last night with a large bobby pin still in my hair. It might have been a result of the three Vodka Collins, two (extremely large) glasses of wine, and one Bailey’s I had before crashing into bed. I guess we could maybe also link it to the eggs and toast that topped everything off, many thanks to Grace.

Before all that, at some point, there was an orchestra concert, which went fine. I’m trying not to be one of those really self-aware people who thinks all their mistakes are noticed by everyone, but secretly, that’s who I am. I guess it’s hard to screw up a concerto concert, though, since everyone’s so excited just to see their friends on stage anyway.

I saw a necklace at the Tibet store tonight that I think I’m going to buy next time I work. It’s so fretty. I guess I spent a lot of money yesterday (movie–Transamerica, v. good, H&M, McDonald’s, two Bailey’s Irish Cremes on the rocks for which I overtipped since I was overly conscious of my drunken obnoxiousness) but other than that it’s really been a while.

Somehow I got my French reading and my Psych powerpoint done in the midst of all this weekend-like activity. That’s good, because tomorrow is looking to be another 11-hour day. I should really just get used to my Mondays.

Speaking of which, people’s inappropriate use of the word “just” really bothers me. It really DOES matter what word you put it before, because you think you’re saying one thing but you’re actually saying something completely different, if you do it wrong. Does this drive anyone else nuts? Sadly, I can’t think of any funny examples.

I think my dog’s dying. =(

For some reason I thought it was a good idea to walk home from work tonight. Actually, I know exactly why I did it: 1) the bus comes 24 minutes after we close and it takes about 32 to walk home and 2) I wanted take out from the Green Mill. But my hands were realllly cold when I got home and my legs were kinda chapped feeling. Also it would have been better had I not forgotten my scarf.

Anyway, the sandwich WAS really good.

I’m really tired and feel really silly going to bed this early but whatever.

I unabashedly love figure skating.

I really like that they’re letting the women wear pants, and I really like that Irina Slutskaya wore pants. Tonight even Sasha Cohen’s costume didn’t bother me.

Well, I have lots of work to get done tomorrow so I’m going to try to go to bed now.

I forgot to mention that I also like that Miki Ando wore black skates.

Got back from Wisconsin at about 4:30 yesterday and promptly fell asleep. I got up for a bit long enough to find out that no one anywhere was doing anything exciting with their Saturday nights, so then I showered (I was kinda filthy as the bath house at the camp was not connected the cabin, and since it was -20 out, no one showered–we were a charming bunch I’m sure) and went back to bed. I think I’m about as rested as can be. And I think I might start showering at night, but I don’t know, I’ve always been a morning showerer. It’ll be a pretty radical change.

I’m still trying to nail down what I’m going to write my fake lesson plan on for this application, but I think I’ve settled on the Merlin stuff from Connecticut Yankee. It’s the only part of the application I haven’t finished but I will continue to put it off at least until I have more pressing homework.

Work was good today. It’s now sunny out till about 5:30 which is extremely exciting. I love when the days are getting longer. After the solstice I have trouble enjoying the long days because I know that they are going to wither away into darkness too fast. I think maybe this says something about me but I don’t know what. I mean, besides that I shouldn’t live at one of the poles.

My mom mailed me some Girl Scout cookies and they are yummy and very unhealthy. But the mango I bought two weeks ago still isn’t ripe (I blame the refrigerator) so I have no choice but to eat them, right?

It is so cold. Weather.com is showing signs of new vocabulary: “bitterly cold” and “dangerous wind chills.” Why did people populate this area?

I should probably pack for tomorrow but instead I’m visiting Genencor and watching the end of men’s figure skating. It’ll probably take me about ten minutes to pack anyway, once I find a bag. Yep, good ol orchestra retreat. I get to share a cabin with nine other people and use a shared bathroom. I’m so over this. But I am looking forward to the free food.

Classes (that I take),Miscellaneous | Wednesday 15 February 2006 10:16 pm

I just went over to Cassie’s to do some reading and keep Genencor company. I have to admit he showed a lot more interest in The Rise of the Novel than I did, although his interest generally took the form of rubbing his face against it and occasionally attempting to chew on it.

I also ate one of their milk chocolate-covered Oreos. Don’t tell.

The women’s halfpipe team is adorable. Much like the kids I started volunteering with this afternoon.

I lost my hat today too. So sad. I’m hoping it will show up in the lost and found since I lost it on my way to the bus stop this afternoon. =(

I am inexplicably stressed out. I’ve been doing stress-relief cleaning (also the place was a little filthy, although I guess I really just mean the bathroom sink).
